Paxil class action

A class action against Glaxo SmithKline will be heard in Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of 35 people claiming serious withdrawal symptoms when they stopped using antidepressant Paxil (Seroxat in the UK). They claim lack of warning of the addictive properties of the drug or severity of withdrawal symptoms, which included a leaning to violence or suicide. In June a Wyoming jury ordered Glaxo to pay US$6.4mn damages in respect of the behaviour of Donald Schell, who shot three relatives and himself after stopping taking the drug. Glaxo is preparing an appeal. While not accepting former labelling was insufficient, the labelling style has been changed to give more information on possible postuse symptoms.
