‘Not crippling’

Rating agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P) sees the development of asbestos claims as significant, but not crippling, for the insurance industry. Differing from Tillinghast-Towers Perrin’s expectation that 60% of final costs of US$200bn will be borne by insurers and A M Best’s expectation of US$65bn costs to insurers, S&P believes the impact will be much less.
