Richard Turner, of IUMI, reports on the work of marine insurers to go green

For the past few years we have witnessed a significant societal push towards a greener future and a continuing transition to achieve enhanced sustainability. In shipping, the charge is being led by the IMO and its ambitious carbon emission targets for a reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs) by at least 50 per cent by 2050 compared with 2008. Recently, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published its sixth assessment report stating a “Code Red” for human-driven global warming, adding urgency to the IMO’s environmental ambitions.
