Moving on: new fuels

With decarbonisation and climate change policies at the forefront of the minds of both the public and governments, we are likely to see many changes to the world in which we live. One of the most noticeable will be the way that cars and pleasure boats are likely to be powered, as Mike Phillips and David Handley, of WFW, reports

By 2030, the sale of internal combustion engine (ICE) propelled cars will be banned in the UK, with other countries following suit. Electric vehicles (EVs) will be more prevalent, with the natural consequence that more of them will be shipped to market by sea and many more will be carried on the world’s roll-on/roll-off ferries. As for pleasure craft, the marinas of the world are likely to see an increasing number of boats and personal watercraft powered by electricity stored in batteries. It is also likely that an increased number of the vehicles used in port infrastructure will likely be hybrid or electrically powered in the coming years.
