UK government to boost green shipping

Jonathan Moss, of DWF, looks at the UK Maritime Minister’s plan to explore shore power which he sees as a boost for green shipping

On 7 February 2022 Maritime Minister Robert Courts set out proposals to accelerate the UK’s ambitions to deliver a greener, more sustainable future for the shipping industry with plans to explore the rollout of emissions-cutting shore power at UK ports. With shore power, vessels will be able to turn off their engines and plug into onshore power sources when berthed, reducing carbon emissions, noise and air pollution.
