Duty only where suicide risk known

Police and prison authorities owed no duty to prisoners in general to prevent suicide. Custodians were under a duty to assess whether a prisoner was at risk of suicide, but no duty of protection existed unless the custodians knew, or ought to have known, of the risk to an individual.
