Six-figure sum in compensation for mesothelioma
A man who developed mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos as a carpenter has received a six-figure sum in compensation.
His first job after leaving school was in the carpentry and joinery trade. He was exposed to asbestos dust from making fire
doors. He had to fit asbestos sheeting as layers within the doors to make the doors fireproof. This work involved cutting
up the asbestos sheeting to size using a handsaw. He was also required to build chicken houses and repair damaged chicken
houses, causing further exposure to asbestos dust as the houses were made of asbestos materials. His former employer is no
longer trading and insurers could not be traced and so Hodge Jones & Allen made a claim on his behalf to the Diffuse Mesothelioma
Payment Scheme.
