In this case a worker slipped on a few drops of water – source unknown – on a tiled staircase in an office environment. The
claimant failed in argument that periodic inspection should have been instituted, as there was no history of other spillages
in this area. Further, an office environment carried less stringent requirements than one where members of the public were
present (see
Ward v Tesco Stores
[1976]).
