Australian med-mal claims soar

The first comprehensive claims report from Australia’s largest medical indemnity insurer, United Medical Protection (UMP), shows a sharp increase in claims and compensation payments. Covering 80% of Australia’s 50,000 doctors as an amalgamation of a number of smaller indemnity providers, the first-time integration of claims data in the report to 1 June 2000 provides a comprehensive picture of Australia’s medico-legal environment.
