Civil penalties for Shell and Olympic
A civil settlement has been reached between the US Justice Department, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the
state of Washington, and Olympic Pipe Line Company and Shell Pipeline Company relating to environmental violations leading
to a fatal pipeline rupture in 1999. The rupture caused the deaths of two 10-year-old boys and an 18-year-old man and resulted
in the discharge of over 230,000 gallons of gasoline.
