Aviation companies file to avoid ground liability

Ten aviation companies including American Airlines and various security firms (United Airlines are excluded as they are in Chapter 11 bankruptcy) filed in Manhattan federal court seeking dismissal of claims for 11 September damage or casualties on the ground in New York and in Washington. They argue that under laws governing airport and flight safety the companies are not legally liable to victims who were not aboard the planes when hijacked.
