Office workers’ health concerns
Figures are to be released showing that dust in the lower Manhattan office of the Securities and Exchange Commission is contaminated
with asbestos particles to far higher level than would normally require clean-up. This follows sampling by a consultant working
for the National Treasury Employees Union in a number of areas, and in the historic Woolworth Building. So far, the Environmental
Protection Agency has been testing and cleaning residences in the area but not workplaces – presumably leaving this to employers,
and their insurers.
