Jury awards up
The US National Law Journal reveals that the dollar amount involved in the top 100 jury awards in 2002 in the US were up by
350% over the previous year. Punitive damage verdicts were awarded in 22 of the 50 largest cases in 2002, the same as in 2001,
but the amount involved was $32bn, compared to just $3.2bn in 2001 (though there was one very large award in 2002).
