The fourth quarter charge of US$315mn for asbestos defence and liability costs, is not covered by insurance. Of the expected
total gross liabilities for the years 2003–2012 of US$1.2bn about half will be insurance covered. With 270,000 claims settled,
in the process of settlement, or dismissed, there were a further 69,000 pending in December of 2002.
