ABA supports cut in asbestos lawsuits

The American Bar Association’s mid year meeting has voted in favour of supporting federal measures to limit asbestos lawsuits. The Association support establishing medical criteria for claims for non-malignant asbestos-related disease in either state or federal courts, while exempting potential claimants from statutory deadlines for filing such claims until their condition meets the criteria. The ABA also voted to support federal laws expanding federal court jurisdiction over class action litigation.
