Damages for police widow

A police officer’s widow has received £425,000 in damages. The officer was killed when attempting to stop a 16 year old car thief in 1999. The 34 year old officer had set up a car block on the motorway using a stinger device, but the thief swerved and hit the officer. The damages are to be paid by the insurers of the stolen car, under the terms of the Road Traffic Act.
