Muscovites sue under new law

Using a recent anti-terrorism law making local authorities liable for damages therefrom, 61 hostages or relatives of the recent theatre siege have filed suit seeking a total of £40mn compensation. Alleging negligence in allowing the terrorists to take over the theatre, lawyer Igor Trunov’s first move was to demand a larger trial venue to allow observers and to claim that the court was not independent, being under the influence of Moscow City.
