American Airlines makes initial payment

As the investigative focus on the 260-death crash of flight 587 on takeoff from New York to the Dominican Republic moves to turbulence from the wake of a Japan Airlines Boeing 747 that probably took off less than the mandatory two minutes beforehand, American Airlines has made initial payments of US$25,000 plus expenses to all families.
