In line with European guidelines, which prohibit governmental compensation to airlines for losses suffered after US airspace
reopened, UK airlines will share a £40mn package covering losses and additional costs in the immediate aftermath of 11 September.
By contrast, the US aviation industry has received a US$15bn bailout.
