Penalties for ‘spurious’ claims

In a bid to stem the rise of claims of wrongful dismissal – now running at over 104,000 a year and thought to be at least partly driven by the rise in compensation ceiling from £12,500 to £50,000 – trade and industry secretary Stephen Byers has announced various deterrents against ill-founded recourse to employment tribunals.
