Air pollution compensation

Ten companies and the Japanese government are to pay more than US$2mn to compensate local residents whose health has been damaged by air pollution. The suit was filed by 145 residents of Nagoya in 1989, and argued that pollution arose not only from the industries but from the government’s failure to alleviate pollution from vehicles using state-managed highways.
