Australian port workers ban handling

Waterside workers in Australia have brought in their own ban on the handling of asbestos in any Australian port. Criticising the lag behind Europe and the recommendation of the National Occupational Health & Safety Commission (NOHSC) for phaseout of asbestos imports over five years, the Maritime Union of Australia has decided to act immediately. Unions are also stepping up assistance to individual and group claimants.
