A partial survey, a year after the Mont Blanc tunnel fire (it is still closed) resulted in 35 deaths, has criticised safety
standards. A comparison, and the true picture, are not available as a number of operators – including those of the Dartford
Tunnel, Europe’s busiest with 150,000 vehicle throughput a day – refused to cooperate.
