High seas law not applicable to flight 800

The US Court of Appeals (second circuit) has ruled that claims arising from the 1996 crash of Transworld Airlines flight 800 off the coast of New York state are not governed by the Death on the High Seas Act 1920. This opens the way for relatives of the dead passengers to recover damages for pain, suffering and related categories of loss.
