£3.4bn negligence liabilities
As part of a depressing report on the financial state of the National Health Service (NHS), the National Audit Office reported
potential liabilities for clinical negligence of £2.4bn at March 1999. A £600mn increase over the previous year, incurred
but not reported incidents are estimated at a further £1bn.
