WTO urges for transparency of legal IP frameworks

Transparency vital to allowing member states ‘much-needed clarity’ and enabling ‘mutual learning’ during Covid-19 vaccine battle; compulsory licensing of patents is applicable under TRIPS rules

Ensuring maximum transparency of IP policy measures undertaken by World Trade Organization (WTO) members is “in the mutual interest of all stakeholders”, the WTO secretariat said in a note published ahead of the latest Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) council meeting today (16 October).
