WILDFIRE THREATENS CALIFORNIA’S WINE COUNTRY
The Glass wildfire in California’s wine country erupted overnight into Monday, prompting the evacuation of tens of thousands of people in Napa and Sonoma counties and threatening the cities of Calistoga (population 5,300) and Santa Rosa (180,000). With wineries already facing the possibility that the 2020 vintage could be destroyed by the dense smoke generated by this year’s multiple wildfires in California, the Glass fire has struck the same region hit by two wildfires in 2017. Quickly spreading from 20 acres to 11,000 acres overnight, the Glass fire completely engulfed the Chateau Boswell Winery and the Black Rock Inn in St Helena in the heart of Napa Valley and threatened more than 8,500 homes and other structures.
