High cost of cover means tree removal

A report in the Guardian has revealed that a number of London boroughs are considering the removal of street trees because they cannot afford the insurance to cover the claims they are receiving for subsidence alleged to be caused by the trees. It was reported that Ealing Council in west London proposed to remove some 4,500 lime and plane trees from the borough's streets because they cost £400,000 a year to maintain and insure.
