Ruling may see employment contract changes

A ruling by the Supreme Court could trigger changes to all employment contracts in the UK, according to Irwin Mitchell. The law firm said the ruling in Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust v Haywood [2018] UKSC 22 is significant because it results in a new term which will be implied into every employment contract in the UK. This means that if an employer makes an employee redundant via a letter, the employee must have a reasonable opportunity to read it before notice is officially given, said Irwin Mitchell.
