As a newly qualified shipping solicitor, I was working in Piraeus at the time of the introduction of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. It was potentially a huge change in the way ships at sea were to be managed and it brought to shipping concepts of risk and safety management that were commonplace in industry and commerce ashore.
