Possible £10 million for brain damage

A hospital has agreed to pay brain injury compensation that could top £10 million after a man was left brain damaged after treatment as a baby in 1994. He was left with the mental capacity of a baby after receiving treatment at the hospital for croup. Whilst undergoing treatment his condition deteriorated and he was placed on an emergency ventilator by medical staff. Once taken off the ventilator he was found to be profoundly brain damaged. His parents alleged that their son was deprived of oxygen whilst being treated. The hospital agreed to pay the compensation to fund his care for the rest of his life, but did not accepted liability for the incident.
