Liability Risk and Insurance
£250,000 in compensation for knee injury
A woman who seriously injured her knee in an accident at work has received more than £250,000 in compensation. The woman worked
as a cashier at a busy Chinese supermarket where she had been employed for more than a decade. Some produce had been dropped
on the floor, and as she walked towards the exit she slipped on it and fell. Her patella had fractured in two and she had
to undergo surgery which involved wires being inserted into the knee to hold it together, and she remained in hospital for
almost two weeks. She then spent a further four months with her leg in a splint. The woman had to undergo surgery to remove
the wires, and since then has suffered from constant swelling and permanent discomfort in the joint. Her employer’s insurers
admitted liability.
