Liability Risk and Insurance
£11,000 in compensation for serious knee injury
A council groundsman who suffered a serious knee injury at work, and hasn’t been able to return to his job, has received £11,000
in compensation. He needed surgery on his right knee after he suffered ligament damage having tripped on a piece of protruding
concrete at a recreational ground. He was unloading his work truck and placing tools in the park’s shed when he tore the ligaments
in his knee. He needed surgery and was forced to walk with a stick for five months. The borough admitted liability and settled
the claim out of court for £11,000. The council was liable because it had been aware of the protruding concrete but did nothing
to fix it.
