£1.2 million in compensation for leg amputation
A woman who had her left leg amputated above the knee as a result of negligent medical treatment has received £1.2 million
in compensation. She attended a walk-in clinic suffering from the symptoms of a sepsis syndrome. She was discharged from the
clinic having been diagnosed with a throat infection and was prescribed antibiotics. She was subsequently diagnosed as suffering
from staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome at a hospital. She developed a clot in her leg as a result and had to undergo a transfemoral
amputation of her left leg. She sued the GP based in the walk-in clinic that she originally attended and where her condition
was misdiagnosed, leading to a delay in hospital treatment. The GP denied liability.
