£1 million damages for brain damage at birth
A six year old girl who suffered brain damage due to delays during her birth has been awarded £1 million in medical negligence
compensation after the trust admitted liability. Errors made at the time of her birth meant that her mother’s caesarean section
was delayed for up to four hours and during the birth the baby was mistakenly deprived of oxygen. As a direct result she now
suffers from both autism and epilepsy, requiring round the clock care and attention that is likely to continue for the rest
of her life. The amount awarded has been calculated at £155,000 per year to be paid for the next 15 years. The payments will
then increase to £282,000 once the girl reaches 21.
