Disproportionate personal injury claims costs highlighted

The issue of disproportionate costs in personal injury claims was brought to the fore recently in a case, Simcoe v Jacuzzi UK Group, before the Master of the Rolls, Lord Neuberger. The case saw damages of £12,750 and claimant costs of £74,000 (which even included a reduction in the success fee from 100% to just over 60%). Lord Neuberger said in his judgement, referring to the figures in the case, “something is out of kilter in at least some parts of the civil justice system.”
