RPC highlights 2012 concerns in medical sector
In its Annual Insurance Briefing 2012, Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC) has highlighted two area of concern in the medical
field. The annual briefing said, “We continue to see malpractice claimants adding claims for psychiatric (as well as physical)
injury, in circumstances where evidence in support of such claims simply does not exist. The tendency to add symptoms of anxiety
or stress to the consequences of any alleged breach of duty is, on occasion, taken to an absurd degree. Allegations of post-traumatic
stress disorder are often made, despite an absence of the level of trauma required for such a diagnosis and against a background
of insufficient evidence.”
