Control Risk has just produced its RiskMap 2012, providing an overview of security risks and the reasons for those risks. Below we summarise the report, focusing on some issues for the maritime markets
2011 was bookended by two seismic popular revolts. In December 2010, the self-immolation of a street vendor in Tunisia ignited
a cascade of protest against unaccountable regimes across the Middle East. Within six months, the leaders of Tunisia, Egypt
and Libya had been toppled and the Syrian and Yemeni governments were in crisis.
