£200,000 in clinical negligence damages

A clinical negligence claim arising from a brain injury has been settled for £200,000 in compensation. While the woman was being operated on, she suffered a hypoxic brain injury because the surgeons failed to maintain her blood pressure at the correct level to provide enough oxygen to her brain. The anaesthetist involved voluntarily retired from his medical role and the General Medical Counsel accepted his resignation. Full liability was admitted by the hospital.
