£1.8m for brain-damaged baby
A premature baby who suffered brain damage has been awarded a compensation package comprising a lump sum of £1.8m with periodical
payments of £70,000 a year until she reaches 18.5 years of age and then £90,000 a year for the rest of her life. As a consequence
of her prematurity, she sustained mild periventricular leukomalcia (PVL), a type of braindamage. However, as a consequence
of negligence, which occurred one week after her birth while she was being cared for in the neonatal unit, she suffered additional
brain damage. She is unable to dress herself with ease or engage in simple recreational activities independently.
