£1.7m care package for ex-paratrooper
A paratrooper who lost his leg in a landmine explosion is to receive a £1.7m care package. He brought a negligence claim against
the Ministry of Defence relating to an incident that occurred in Afghanistan, in which he stepped on a mine while trying to
help fellow soldiers. It was argued in court that his platoon was not given a map highlighting the presence of the minefield,
as well as that no appropriate helicopters were initially sent to help them. Part of the care package will go towards funding
the former paratrooper’s need for prosthetic limbs.
