£50,000 in compensation for medical errors
A man who underwent a number of procedures as a result of a kidney stone that was missed after a scan has received £50,000
in compensation. Two stones were seen in his ureter on a CT scan and he underwent a procedure to removethem. During the procedure,
the ureter was severed and the procedure had to be abandoned, leaving one stone in theureter. He required stents (artificial
tubes) in his ureter and his kidney function deteriorated. A different urologist found a stone remaining in the ureter, which
was removed. He claimed one of the stones that was found on the CT scan had been forgotten about and remained in the ureter.
The NHS Trust concerned agreed to settle the case for £50,000 and legal costs less than one month before trial.
