Engineer awarded £20,000 for thumb injury

A maintenance engineer has been awarded £20,000 after his thumb was seriously injured whilst using an angle grinder. He was grinding down some residue tack weld when the injury occurred. The position he was able to adopt to carry out the task was made awkward by the limited access to the area which resulted in him holding the grinder with both hands 14 inches away from his body.
