Mesothelioma sufferer wins £120,000
A man who worked in the shipyards in Tyneside from the 1950s to the early 1990s has been awarded £120,000 after being diagnosed
with mesothelioma. He was exposed to asbestos on a daily basis, often working in areas where laggers were spraying the ships’
bulkheads with asbestos. In the later part of his working life he had to strip asbestos lagging away from chemical vessels
to carry out maintenance to the vessels and pipes. He frequently worked in confined spaces with no extraction facilities and
poor ventilation. No protective clothing was provided and no warnings were given on the dangers of working with asbestos.
