£25,000 damages for tenosynovitis

A woman who worked as a customer service adviser for a financial services company has been awarded £25,000 after she developed upper limb disorder as a result of her work. She developed the condition of tenosynovitis of the right upper limb after a computer system failed at work and she was required to manually write all calls down for a period of approximately five weeks. Despite complaining to her team leader and the IT department about her injury, no steps were taken to change her duties. Her employer denied liability throughout the claim arguing that it had not breached their duty of care. Only after court proceedings were issued did the employer enter into negotiations to settle the claim.
