Liability Risk and Insurance
Hand injury compensation
A man employed as a diecaster has been awarded £15,000 after his hand was injured in a faulty machine. The man was working
on a die casting machine which was missing two out of the four pins securing the strap (a steel bar) to hold the die in place.
The man was attempting to insert a new pin whilst holding the load in place but as he did so the load fell and landed on his
left hand. He sustained a broken left index finger and had to undergo surgery to have two metal plates inserted into his finger.
The injury has left the man with a deformity in his hand and he now faces the risk of arthritis in later years.
