£112,000 mesothelioma settlement

The family of a former teacher has received £112,000 in compensation after he died from mesothelioma. The man was exposed to asbestos while working as an apprentice shipwright for the Ministry of Defence at HM Dockyards from 1941 to 1946. He removed asbestos lagging used on the ships and was exposed to the dangerous material on a daily basis. He was not provided with protective equipment or warned of the dangers of his exposure to the dust. Before he retired he was a teacher for 20 years, teaching maths, history and music.
