14.12, sinking, fatalities

Taiwan: sand carrier Lien Mong (1177 gt) loaded with construction sand and gravel sank off the coast of Keelung with six of its 10 crew members rescued and the others unaccounted for. The coastguard received a distress message from the ship when it capsized and sank 5.2 nautical miles off the coast of Keelung. A coast guard cutter and a helicopter rushed to the scene. Subsequently rescue boats were launched by Taiwan Coast Guard, and seven crewmembers were rescued. Three crewmembers were still missing.
