£35,000 damages for back pain
A man who worked as a bank cashier has been awarded £35,000 for the back pain developed in the course of her work. She had
worked with the bank for six years at a telephone banking centre and then moved to a branch to become a cashier. It was whilst
she worked at the branch that she developed lower back pain. She was required to sit for long hours leaning forward without
back support at her workstation whilst delivering cash to customers. The first ergonomic assessment of her work station was
carried out some two years after her problems developed. The assessment made various recommendations for her workstation,
mainly that she should be provided with a suitable chair and a flex desk worktop.
