Maritime Risk International
IN BRIEF
GERMAN GROWTH FOR CLUB
The North of England P&I Association has been celebrating an ever-increasing German membership. Chairman Albert Engelsman
recalled how the entry from Germany stood at just 60 ships and 0.5m gt back in 2001. It now accounts for more than 9% of the
club’s total entered tonnage with 370 ships, more than 8.5m gt and more than 40 shipowner members on risk. Shipowners include
long-established members Blumenthal, Hamburg Süd and Orion Bulkers along with numerous members that have joined more recently.
Engelsman also paid tribute to German insurance brokers for their continued support. ‘A large part of the new business coming
to North is through the marine broking community.’
